What is Low Code?
Low Code refers to application development without the need for programming skills, that is, software development that requires little or no coding to create applications and processes.
This is achieved through the use of visual interfaces with simple logic and drag & drop functions that give the user autonomy instead of opting for more complex programming languages.
What are the advantages?
- Velocity: It reduces development time exponentially thanks to its intuitive interface with pre-designed templates, as they favour agility
- Collaborative: Improved readability of the code makes it possible for anyone to know the status of the project and participate in decision making
- Expansion: It is possible to integrate the solution with existing systems, giving developers the ability to extend projects to other departments beyond IT
- Cost reduction: Reduced development time and easier project management leads to a reduction in project costs
- Scalable: It bridges the gap between creation and production. In fact, modules can easily be created to extend the functionality of existing software
- Code quality: Sometimes, projects require very short delivery times, which means that developers take less care when it comes to safeguarding the quality of the code, which ultimately affects the usability, performance and availability of the developments. Therefore, Low Code guarantees the best practices in the shortest possible time.
- Security: Development through Low Code follows the latest industry standards for code security and data integrity.
What types of Low Code platforms are there?
There are 3 main types of platforms that use Low Code to facilitate development:
- BPM or Business Process Management. BPMs are integral business process management platforms, which have low-code functionalities but are oriented to business processes, requiring additional technical developments or complements to cover other areas. Example: systems, IT maintenance.
- The product-oriented platforms are solutions oriented to support an existing platform. They are characterised by providing the business or IT end-user with the ability to develop their own solutions directly on the platform, but with the disadvantage of not being exportable to other platforms.
- All-in-one platforms. These platforms are agnostic and allow the development of multi-experience applications for any channel, device, online, offline, smart and connected. They allow you to integrate data and logic from any data source, system or service.
Garner Quadrant Leader: MENDIX
Mendix is an "All-in-One" platform, as it is one of the fastest and easiest ways to build, integrate and extend applications. It builds apps 10 times faster and with 70% fewer resources, allowing experts in each area to contribute while IT is in control.
Through a hybrid or multi-cloud deployment, Mendix brings Low Code to all software problems:
- Intelligent automation (workflow)
- Multi-experience Development (mobile)
- Data Integration (Data hub)
- Artificial Intelligence-assisted development
Advantages of Mendix:
- Offline Development
- Cloud Agnostic
- Cloud Narrative Architecture
- Mobile Application Development
- On Premise and Cloud Deployment
- Automation with UiPath
