A manufacturing facility uses a variety of acronyms to describe various processes and software systems. ERP, MES, PLM, OPC Server, and CMMS are among the most popular.
The main problem is that some of these solutions share characteristics and have different limitations, which means that future integrations and new projects become complex and expensive “solutions”. MES
The Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) are computer systems that are used in manufacturing plants to control and monitor production processes that result in the conversion of raw materials into finished products. They assist production decision makers in making important decisions or detecting potential problems as soon as possible, resulting in increased production efficiency. One of the most important characteristics of MES systems is that they operate in real time.
PLM
roduct lifecycle management (PLM) is an all-encompassing approach to innovation, new product development and introduction (NPDI), and product information management from the initial idea to the final execution. PLM Systems, connect people, data, processes, and business systems to offer enterprises with a product information backbone.
OPC SERVER
OPC is an interoperability standard for transferring data securely and reliably in the industrial automation and other sectors. It is platform agnostic and provides a smooth flow of data across devices from various manufacturers. The OPC standard specify the interface between Clients and Servers, as well as Servers and Servers, and includes features such as access to real-time data, alarm and event monitoring, historical data access, and other applications.
CMMS
The Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) is software that tracks and maintains assets and resources in a company's maintenance department. It allows users to manage and track all further maintenance work, while also preserving a historical record of previous task and recording essential asset information for future reference.
