Because of its sustainability and low environmental impact, the railway sector is one of the main pillars of Spain's mobility plan for 2030. As a result, the goal of this mobility plan is to make the train as competitive as other alternatives of transportation by increasing rail connections and improving customer service.
However, because it is one of the most expensive alternatives of public transportation for users, it is critical that the service keeps improving in terms of pricing and user experience, to increase its use while decreasing all transportation’s emission by 90% before 2050.
The main challenge for the railway sector is to strengthen its competitive advantage over alternative methods of transportation that have a higher environmental impact, while maintaining its benefits of safety, sustainability, and comfort.
