CONNECTED VEHICLES

Autonomous cars have no margin for error, which is why the technology is subject to more rigorous testing.

Today, the list of functionalities and features in our cars that are being automated or complemented by AI continues to develop rapidly:

  • Back position "backup" cameras
  • Passengers assistance functions
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Travel-departure warnings and travel-keeping assistance
  • Blind spot observation
  • Accident-avoidance schemes
  • Pedestrian sensing warnings
  • Voice-activated safety applications

Basically, vehicles are rolling robots that do our travelling and transport activities for us.

Some car manufacturers have already showcased their self-driving car application and some of them intend to move towards driverless vehicles. In the next five years, automakers intend to bring out some form of commercial-ready autonomous vehicle. Autonomous cars that will move seamlessly with the back-end infrastructure, and will also be able to generate real-time data related to communication, weather and accident warnings.

Goldman Sachs forecasts...

that by 2030 driverless cars will contribute to 60% of US vehicle sales.

This can greatly reduce human error and thus prevent accidents from occurring to a large extent. It is also fascinating that 65 percent of respondents stated that they were uncomfortable with intel driving the car with respect to how humans have gradually welcomed more and more equipment into those driving experiences over the years. Cruise control and anti-lock brakes were early examples of the style we immediately take for granted in our vehicles.
